Saturn Project Car
Front Strut Removal and Install Springs

The procedure on the front was almost identical to the rear. We remove the three upper nuts and then the two strut to knuckle bolts. A tip here is to leave one of the nuts threaded on the upper mount so that the strut does not fall as the strut to knuckle bolts are removed.
Here we show the front strut being removed from the vehicle
Again we supported the strut, compressed the spring and removed the nut from the upper strut mount.
Before we installed the new spring the upper strut mount was closely inspected and found to be in need of replacement. This is the perfect time to install a new bearing plate, even if it is only slightly lose or binding in the bearings. We installed the new bearing plate then reinstalled the strut assembly in the car and torqued all bolts to manufacturers specifications. We then repeated this procedure on the left side of the vehicle and then reinstalled the wheel and tire assemblies.
