2007
Thunderhill
Raceway, April 14-15, 2007
2006 National Champion #2 Ernesto Roco did
not drive 500+ miles north to just sit, and laid down record
lap times in the qualifying session. Just hearing his AIX car
in the practice sessions was an impressive site, and the front
straight speeds nearly broke a few windows. With 600Hp and
a professional-class car, Corey Weber also laid down rocket
fast laps and was intent on giving Roco a fight, however, the
AGENT47 car experienced an axle failure and was forced into
the pits, and found the failure too severe to fix at the track.
Roco laid down a 1.52.06 lap, never seen at Thunderhill in
the AIX class before. |

Willow Springs Raceway, May 5-6, 2007
A flying start, AIX in front with Ernesto and Murray
leading. AI class following with Bowman and Lindsey leading. Lindsey
with a
pushrod aluminum LS motor and Bowman with a 4.6L modular engine… The
green flag drops, RPMs race to redline and the AIX class dices
into turn-1 with Roco taking the corner, just barely ahead of Ross
Murray and Weber, the three cars nearly going through the corner
side by side. Through turn-2, Roco commands the corner, letting
Murray and Weber to battle for 2nd position. The high powered AIX
cars, just again of the lead AI cars, nearly clash and dice into
the high braking zone of turn-3, up the “Budweiser” hill.
Suddenly, the #27 Daffron car with Ross Murray at the wheel blows
an oiling line and his forced off line and out of the race. This
leaves the Agent47 car to focus on the lead car of Roco, two SN95
cars, both with SLA front suspensions, Roco weighting much less
but Weber having more power. #2 Roco wants to settle into a pace,
but #47 Weber is hungry to catch and pass the veteran AIX champion.
Mid race, Weber gets close enough to Roco in turn 8 and turn 2
and 3, and even edges a nose for the lead. But the #2 Roco car
is just too strong, and Roco re-gains his lead position. With only
a couple of laps left, Ernesto Roco hammers the throttle to open
up a gap from the Agent47 car, taking another race win.
2006
Ernesto Roco, driving his ‘98 Mustang, won the 2006 American Iron Extreme
(AIX) Championship at the NASA Nationals, featuring a Grigg’s suspension
with SPC’s camber, caster, offset and arm length adjustable racing upper
control arms.
With the win Ernesto lowered the track record by almost 2.5 seconds to a 1:53.216. He
was also able to set a new AIX qualifying record of 1:52.060 despite other on
track traffic. He credits these accomplishments to his GR40 World Challenge System
and aero dynamic improvements he has made, which include SPC adjustable upper control arms. Ernesto says there is a 1:51 in the
car and next time he will be up to it. |
